When you hear “Sin City”, “Millionaire City” and other epithets by which this desert city of Nevada in the USA is known, and you have seen the movies where the luxury hotels and attractions are shown, one imagines a very expensive city.

But, believe it or not, Las Vegas for us was one of the cheapest stays of our trips. And with two days at your disposal, you can do everything that we share here.

In this article we will tell you the 10 things you can do for free in Las Vegas.

Tropical forest

In the garden courtyard of the iconic Flamingo Hotel, developed with Mafia funds, is home to a wildlife habitat with Chilean flamingos, ducks and other birds. There are also koi fish and turtles.

There is even, and adding to the hotel’s tropical theme, a restaurant and gift shop. You will feel in the jungle inside the desert city. It is a relaxed and calm place.

Fall of Atlantis

Caesar Palace is the setting for the Fall of Atlantis show. It’s a fire and water show, with animatronic characters fighting for control of Atlantis. It’s a bit outdated, but fun.

All set on an aquarium with numerous species.

Welcome to Las Vegas

A must-see for many is the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas billboard to take the obligatory photo next to it. It’s free, yes. But usually there is a long line of people who want to do the same thing.

Since 1959, this sign has welcomed visitors to the city and has become an icon in itself.

The Container Park

The Container Downtown is a mall and entertainment center, where shops, bars and restaurants are built inside metal containers.

It has various gastronomic options, with a playground and shows every night.

At the entrance at night there is a huge statue of a very colourful mantis whose antennae shoot jets of fire. It is better to visit it at night. It is three blocks from downtown.

Walk the Strip

Almost all the emblematic hotels are located on this 4-kilometre street. “The Strip” is one of the most famous streets in the US and an icon of the city. You will see the replica of the Eiffel tower, surrounded by petits cafés. You will see the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx of Egypt, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. As well as a recreation of Venice at the Venetian Hotel.

It’s an excessive and crazy atmosphere: you see people drinking beer in giant glasses, people dressed up as movie and television characters, etc.

Casinos

If there’s one thing Las Vegas is known for, it’s its casinos.

Interestingly, casinos do not have windows or a wall clock so that their customers lose track of time and stay longer in the place. Decorations are lavish or theme-specific like the Asian Casino with Chinese New Year decorations. On the other hand, in the Caesar Palace the decoration is very European.

Walking into one of these casinos, you feel like you’re on a movie set or living a life full of intrigue and adventure in the style of James Bond.

We went to Las Vegas for Christmas and the casinos showed a really impressive decoration of lights and colors. They were like museums of lights in the open air and free!

As a curious fact, we noticed that several avenues are crossed by mechanical pedestrian crossings.

Venetian Carnival

At the Venetian Hotel you can enjoy a replica of the Venice Carnival. With songs, costumes, dances. You will see colorful circus shows.

It’s a kind of musical, with operatic singing, more like zarzuela. It is a show of about 15 minutes that is well worth enjoying.

Artificial Volcano

At The Mirage, a Polynesian-themed hotel on the Strip, is a man-made volcano that “erupts” every night at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 p.m.

The technology has been improved to make it more spectacular. To avoid the odor of unburned natural gas odorant, the mercaptan is removed from the natural gas and a pina colada fragrance is added to the natural gas stream.
In 2008 a new soundtrack complete with the sounds of real volcanoes erupting has been included for an even better experience.

Old Vegas

The Fremont Experience, with its almost a mile, is an arched street of about 3 or 4 blocks.

At night there is an audiovisual show. The lights of the buildings under the roof are turned off and the show begins.

Presentations of musical bands of different genres are made. There are even zip lines from which you can see the street in its entirety. Although they are not free, they are worth it. There are casinos too, but with a different vibe, cheaper.

You will see street performers, impersonators of legends like Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson.

Dancing waters

In the Hotel Bellagio are the fountains that dance to the sound of music. They are the letter of introduction of the famous hotel. Every 45 minutes a show starts. At night it is more striking.
There is nothing like seeing them in person. They say it is the most ambitious source of water and complex ever conceived and is absolutely free for any visitor to enjoy. Each “performance” is unique and different in expression and interpretation, so no matter how many times you have seen the sources, you will always see something different.

Conclusions

Las Vegas is a city built in the middle of the desert for the sole purpose of entertainment. It is an example of the “American dream”, which is often based on illusion.

And that is what you will see in Las Vegas: the illusion of being in Paris or Egypt or Venice. The illusion of seeing dead legends like Elvis or Michael Jackson… In short, the illusion of the prospect of becoming rich in one of their casinos.

However, it cannot be denied that this mirage in the middle of the desert is a very lively and interesting city.
