Hello, we are Yuliana and Yanelia. And we are travelholic.
The first thing is to recognize that you have the condition. The inveterate or traveling traveler must have the courage to accept that it is, and then take the corresponding cure: travel.
But how do you know that you are a true traveler, that you love to travel and not just someone who has given in to the nomadic lifestyles that sell some places like the non plus ultra of the joie de vivre? In this article we will list some symptoms.
You can’t finish one to think about the next
It happens to us, why hide it? We haven’t finished one trip when we’re already thinking about the next. Sometimes, our current journey inspires the next.
Sometimes, we say “We missed seeing this or that. We’ll have to come back.”
We know it’s like being greedy, but you know, we’re travelolic.
Collect moments
The great emotion of traveling, for us, is about the expectation of collecting experiences. We are very excited about the fact of waiting for a trip knowing that we are going to experience sensations, flavors, learnings, human warmth different from the everyday and that makes us happy before taking flight.
On the trip itself, our expectations are almost always met and on many occasions, they are even exceeded.
Many times we know of a place that we had not planned while we are traveling, either because someone who has visited it comments or by other means and the fact of having that freedom to make our itineraries allows us to change one visit or one date for another.
All for the fact that we are consumers of moments, of travel experiences. Which you can consume again and again without running out.
Amazement at the everyday
We are surrounded by wonders, but we forget about it. Sometimes we overlook them.
But when you travel, you take that “all new” attitude and you’re amazed by things that are so everyday: if you’re from the tropics, the first time you see snow. Or the autumnal color changes of the foliage of the trees. If you come from countries far to the north, a beautiful sunny beach and the fact of enjoying excellent weather almost all year round.
Now that you know that attitude of amazement of the everyday thanks to travel, you can return home with it, and discover the wonders that surround you and that always went unnoticed. To paraphrase Proust: I do not want new worlds to see, but new eyes to see the World.
You repeat the trip many times
We do it several times on the same trip.
We travel when we are preparing the trip, by collecting information and with the power of anticipation we begin to vividly imagine that we are already in our destinations meeting new people, flavors and places.
Then we go on the “real” trip, and sometimes things are as we imagined them, sometimes not so much, but usually better.
Finally, we repeat the trip indefinitely, through the photos, the feedback between us and chatting with friends who want to hear about our adventures.
Don’t be afraid to take risks
We are two girls alone, sometimes only one of us travels. You can imagine the times we’ve been told “Is it dangerous to travel alone?”, “That’s a dangerous country”, “Men don’t respect women” and so on.
Obviously, we look deeply, even with those who have already gone. And on the site we use common sense to safeguard ourselves. But we don’t remember a time when we stopped visiting a place because we were scared.
We don’t let fear dictate our travel decisions, just common sense.
You want to try the local
We do not understand those people who travel to Prague or Thailand and go to eat at McDonald’s because they usually do so in their countries of origin. No, no kidding, a lot of people do, especially American tourists.
The travelolic wants to try new flavors and sensations through the local gastronomy. We almost never stop trying a local dish when we get the chance.
The fear of disease from undercooked foods is unknown to us.
Your financial thoughts are based on travel
It’s not just about you saving to travel or stopping you from going out or buying something to finance your next adventure.
It’s that you get to “weird” extremes. We’ve all dreamed of winning a big lottery prize.
People often think, “If I win the lottery I buy a house” or “I ride my business” or “I insult my boss and quit.” We think things like “Spend two or three years traveling around the world.” Although it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make a good investment and then travel the world. And when a friend tells us “This cell phone has cost me 500 dollars”, we say “With that you could have paid for a ticket to China or Thailand”
Influencers Travellers
If you look at the social accounts we follow, you’ll see that the overwhelming majority belong to travelers: nomads, travel photographers, and whatever non-sedentary-rarito there may be.
There are some artists we like, some interesting people, our family, friends… but without a doubt the amount and character of the accounts you follow will say a lot about you. And ours definitely say, “Travel!”.
Traveling friends
There are people for everything. There are people who enjoy traveling always alone.
But the travelingolic usually does a community of friends with a traveling inclination (or suffering) like himself.
Friendship is triggered and maintained by common interests. So it’s not uncommon for most of our friends to be inveterate travelers like us. Or at least, they want to be.
We meet people who had always wanted to travel, but did not do so for fear of doing it alone. Until they met a “travel buddy“. And then there was no turning back.
In our case, obviously, we are sisters who share the same longing and dream, so we are each other’s adventure partner.
Traveling decoration
Well, we are aware that this will not win us any decoration prizes.
Although we don’t usually buy ornaments on our travels, we do so from time to time.
The truth is that in our refrigerator and on almost any flat surface in our house you can see that suddenly some souvenier looks out such as keychains, magnetic pins, snow domes (the crystal balls with water inside and a landscape) and any kitsch contraption that may have written the name of a tourist destination that we have visited.
Travel literature
Google knows this. Youtube and Instagram know this: Your internet searches are usually related to travel.
You are subscribed to several blogs and websites of travelers and you follow with emotion the adventures of 10 types and tipas that you do not know, but that are doing or have made a trip that you want to make.
Sometimes a printed travel guide falls into your hands and, although you know it may have outdated information, you still devour it.
You are waiting if in your city there will soon be a congress of travel bloggers or digital nomads.
Your friends know you’re sick
Your friends are usually aware of your illness: When we have a time that we do not contact our friends, the question to know about us is usually the following:
“Hello, What part of the planet are you in now?”.
And they seem to feel confused and sometimes disappointed if we answer “At home.”
Conclusions
Yes, these are some of the symptoms of this wonderful disease that has only one possible cure: travel.
Because as Oscar Wilde said, “There is only one way to overcome desires: by giving in to them.
” So we are travelolic (we are in the process of including the term in the Dictionary of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language).
We give ourselves body and soul to this passion that is to travel and that far from being diminished with each trip, makes us increasingly want to know exotic destinations.
