It’s been 5 years since we’ve been back in Venezuela.
Our friends and some relatives have also left and abroad there are many people who ask us about the current situation in Venezuela.
As a result we have disconnected from the reality of our country that saw us born in Venezuela. Like anyone else who hasn’t lived in Venezuela, our perception is based on what the newscasts tell us. This disconnect makes it difficult for us to understand and explain the economic, social and political situation of our country.
Rediscovering history
In this context, we decided to document ourselves more about Venezuela. As we immersed ourselves in a deeper search through videos and texts, many mixed feelings emerged.
As we delved deeper and deeper into the subject, a sense of pride for our country surfaced.
We have traveled the political, social and economic history of Venezuela in a more graphic and visual way than those times when we were high school students, undoubtedly that the way information is presented today is much more didactic and fun, which makes it easier to learn than a few years ago. We also believe that adulthood and maturity also mean that we have a different view of things.
This vision makes us understand more about the trends, human evolution and behavior of a population thanks to its history.
An example of what we have learned and it has impacted us, is “Petare”, one of the neighborhoods most feared by Venezuelans (even by us), but it turns out that in that dangerous place there are many honest people of human quality who make a life, also from Petare there is one of the most spectacular and shocking views of the city of Caracas. In addition, there are organizations that from the disinterest and the most authentic feeling, work to help those most in need.
A journey beyond tourism
All this research process has made us internalize the importance of knowing the history of a country or a region to understand its culture, in this way we are sure that a trip, rather than tourism itself, will become a more productive and more rewarding internal trip.
Another aspect that has touched us, is the fact that a foreigner will explore and do tourism in our country, and you who read this will say: but what is it unusual that a foreigner does tourism in your country? Precisely being so many years away from our country and knowing that the tourist infrastructure has gone through a deep crisis, makes us experience a feeling of amazement to see that there are still foreigners visiting Venezuela, but at the same time it fills us with pride to see our country from a more objective point of view and from another perspective.
Conclusions
Finally, we want to close by listing the positive aspects, as a result of knowing more about the reality of our country:
- Although we are outside our land we must always keep our country end up and we must feel proud, since we do not collaborate in anything by speaking ill of our land.
- That Venezuela has given us a lot and that in one way or another we can help, even with a small grain of sand to foundations of children with cancer or even to foundations of animals.
- That gave us an immense desire to visit Venezuela, share with our loved ones, buy an immense “cachapa”, visit Canaima, Roraima, the Angel falls, Los Roques, visit the places we do not visit yet.
- That we do not judge those who decide to stay in Venezuela, nor those who decide to leave, since it is so difficult to be in either case.
- That sometimes we complain so much about insignificant things and see that there are people who are in really difficult situations, that it splits our soul … children who are not to blame for anything and live in conditions they should not live and yet carry a pure smile and a joy on their face. We still have a lot to learn!
- Now I know more about history than before which makes me have as a new task to read even more of a country’s history before visiting it.
- Undoubtedly, communications and access to information today have made knowledge available to everyone in a way never seen before, since we can see history and historical moments from another perspective.
